Many I/O psychologists work with organizations to help improve teamwork, increase productivity, provide training and assessment, build more effective customer relations and deal with human resource problems. Other I/O psychologists work in research or academic positions. While others work as independent consultants and coaches helping a variety of profit and non-profit public and private organizations. The career field of Industrial & Organizational Psychologists is very diverse and exciting," Dahlke explained.
"According to 2010 statistics presented by the US Department of Labor, the average salaries of I/O
psychologists is $114,040 and the top 5% of I/O Psychologists earn $250,000 or higher per year. Given the rapid changes taking place in the 21st-century work environment, I/O Psychologists are increasingly in great demand. According to government economists, the job growth for industrial and organizational psychologists is expected to be faster than the average for all careers through 2018.
According to the College Board, a not-for-profit membership organization committed to excellence and equity in education, this is a career specialty in which employees with a master's degree are highly desirable when it comes time to finding work," Dahlke elaborated.
I/O Psychology is a sub-specialty in psychology and is Division 14 of the American Psychological Association.
