British comedy ”The Infidel” to be remade in Bollywood

New Delhi, Mar 13 - British comedy film ÒThe InfidelÓ, about a British Muslim suffering from an identity crisis, is being remade in Bollywood.

India-based Trigno Media, co-founded by Sajjad Chunawala and Shariq Patel, has acquired the rights to develop the cross-cultural comedy in Hindi.

The film's original producers Uzma Hasan, Arvind David and writer-producer David Baddiel will serve as executive producers.

The story revolves around a British muslim, who goes through an identity crisis when he discovers he was adopted as a child and born to a Jewish family. The remake will focus on India's two main religions: Hinduism and Islam.

ÒPeople are terrified about race and religious issues, especially issues surrounding Muslims and Hindus, and when people are terrified, what they really should do is laugh. The Infidel is a hilarious story of a man caught between his religion and his conscience and is a story that has immense relevance to India and is a fantastic and important film that is waiting to be made,Ó said Sajjad Chunawala, director of Trigno Media.

The 2010 UK box office hit starred Omid Djalili, Richard Schiff, Yigal Naor, Archie Panjabi and Matt Lucas.
