Bands Rock the House at Inaugural Law Rocks! Los Angeles
LOS ANGELES, March 12, 2012- On March 8, 2012 in front of a packed house, five bands made up of legal professionals took the stage at the Whisky a Go Go in Los Angeles for the first annual Law Rocks! "battle of the bands" benefitting charitable organizations. Trading in their legal briefs for guitars and leather pants, the local legal community raised over $35,000 for charity.Law firms competing in the concert included DLA Piper, Mayer Brown, Sheppard Mullin, Skadden Arps and Venable. The American Bankruptcy Institute also fielded a band with its members traveling from all over the U.S. to participate.
Each band selected a charity, and the event proceeds were donated among the designated charities based on each band's final score. Band scoring was determined by a combination of audience voting, voting by a panel of judges, and total fundraising.
Exposition Deposition, formed by members of Venable and Sheppard Mullin, took home first place. Run DLA, formed by members of DLA Piper, took second place.
As the winner, Exposition Deposition's designated charity, The Painted Turtle, will take home nearly $25,000. The Painted Turtle is a camp in Lake Hughes, CA for kids and teens with serious illnesses.
"Exposition Deposition brought the house down – it was amazing to see them win and have such awesome support of their group," said Ann Tierney of The Painted Turtle. "With these funds, we will be able to send at least 16 kids to camp this summer!"
Over $8,000 of the event proceeds will be donated to Run DLA's designated charity, the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank.
Charlie Played Cello (playing to benefit the Amazing Day Foundation), Indubitable Equivalents (playing to benefit the Anthony H.N. Schnelling Endowment Fund), and Matthew Umhofer (playing to benefit the Inner City Law Center) also provided knock out performances. Law Rocks! will donate $1,000 to each of these charities.
"We are thrilled at the massive success of our inaugural Law Rocks! concert in Los Angeles!" said Ted Scott and Brandt Mori, Co-Founders of Law Rocks!. "The level of talent and energy was far beyond what we could have ever imagined. The bands put on an amazing show."
Sponsors of the event included Venable LLP, Watt Tieder Hoffer and Fitzgerald LLP, DLA Piper LLP, and Mayer Brown LLP. Other event partners included Vox Entertainment, Keating Chambers, Secretariat International and Marsh USA.
